To make these computer models as realistic as possible I rely on observations from the field.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antarctica.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">British Antarctic Survey (BAS)<\/a> has been monitoring Antarctic albatrosses for over 50 years, and it is their data that I use to build and validate the computer models. Dr. Richard Phillips from BAS recently returned from a three-month trip to the albatross colonies Bird Island in the South Atlantic Ocean.
